Thirty cardinals raised concerns about Amoris Laetitia draft

The Pope’s apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia has caused widespread concern among cardinals and bishops, according to new reports.

Edward Pentin, veteran Vatican reporter for the National Catholic Register, reports:

Before the document was published, 30 cardinals, having seen an advance draft of the apostolic exhortation, wrote to the Pope expressing their reservations, especially on the issue of Communion for remarried divorcees, warning that the document would weaken the three essential sacraments of the Church: the Eucharist, marriage and confession.

Pentin also said that a “significant number” of bishops’ conferences have expressed concerns about the document. Furthermore, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), having seen a draft, submitted several pages of revisions. These were not accepted, according to Pentin. The Pope has also not replied to either the 30 cardinals or the bishops’ conferences.

The most significant public response to Amoris Laetitia so far has been the five dubia (doubts/questions), issued by four cardinals, asking for clarification. One of the four, Cardinal Raymond Burke, has recently said they might issue a formal correction of the Pope if he does not reply.

The exhortation continues to be a hotbed of controversy since its publication in April. It has been criticized for its ambiguity on the issues of the indissolubility of marriage and whether couples in adulterous relationships can receive Holy Communion.

The four cardinals stated when they went public with their “dubia”, after the Pope failed to give them a response, that Amoris Laetitia “implies different, contrasting approaches to the Christian way of life,” and thus their questions touch “on fundamental issues of the Christian life.”

The five yes-or-no questions they ask of the Pope are: 1) whether adulterers can receive Holy Communion; 2) whether there are absolute moral norms that must be followed “without exceptions;” 3) if habitual adultery is an “objective situation of grave habitual sin;” 4) whether an intrinsically evil act can be turned into a “subjectively good” act based on “circumstances or intentions;” and 5) if, based on “conscience,” one can act contrary to known “absolute moral norms that prohibit intrinsically evil acts.”∎

Vatican doctrine chief: Amoris Laetitia cannot be interpreted in a way that refutes previous teachings of popes

Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Muller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, said that Amoris Laetitia cannot be interpreted in a way that contradicts magisterial teachings of previous popes and councils.

In his December 1, 2016 interview with the domradio.de, the radio station of the Diocese of Cologne, Germany, the Vatican’s doctrine chief said:

The binding declarations of the popes, of the Councils of Trent and of the Second Vatican Council and of the Congregation for the Faith on the essential characteristics of marriage and on the precondition for a fruitful reception of the Sacraments in the state of justifying [i.e., sanctifying] grace may not be pushed aside by anyone under the pretext that marriage is, after all, merely an ideal which only can be reached by a very small number of people.

Regarding Communion for “remarried” divorced Catholics, Muller cites a 1994 letter by then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, which denied the possibility for bishops to permit Communion for the couples in question. The letter  by Cardinal Ratzinger was a response to a 1993 Pastoral Letter of three progressive German bishops (one of them being the then-Bishop Walter Kasper) who were then already pushing for Communion for the “divorced and remarried.”

The indissolubility of marriage must be “the unshaken foundation of teaching and of every pastoral accompaniment,” Müller emphasizes.

The interview was Muller’s first – and so far only – public response to the issue of the four Cardinal’s Dubia addressed to the Pope. Muller said that his Congregation cannot answer the four Cardinals’ Dubia without the express authority of the Pope.

Cardinal Müller stated in the interview that the “Holy Father, at the same time, wishes to help all people whose marriages and families are in a crisis to find a path in accordance with the ever-merciful will of God. We can always assume that the just and merciful God always wants our salvation in whatever need we find ourselves. But it does not stand in the power of the Magisterium to correct God’s Revelation or to make the imitation of Christ comfortable.”

As a follow-up question, the interviewer asked Muller: “Would the bishops’ conferences thus then be asked to help? Francis himself, after all, writes in Amoris Laetitia that not all questions need to be clarified in Rome….”

When answering this pertinent question, the German Cardinal first explains that bishops’ conferences “are merely working groups with certain competences” and, thus, are not of “Divine Law.” He continues:

Only in fidelity to the teaching of the Apostles, to the whole of the revealed Faith, can the bishops of a conference speak, for example, about the pastoral application of Amoris Laetitia. Otherwise, the Church would disintegrate into national churches and, in the end, would atomize. The Sacrament of Marriage, however, is in Korea just as valid as it is in Germany.

When asked whether the individual bishop may make his own independent decision as a response to Amoris Laetitia, Muller responded that  “Nor can the individual bishops do whatever they want according to their own private taste. They are servants, not masters of the Faith.”

Muller emphasized that marriage is not an “ideal” to which we aspire to, but rather a Sacrament founded by God Himself:

Marriage is in truth not a wishful image produced by ourselves, but, rather, a Sacrament, that is to say a reality founded by God Himself. It is an expression of the Mercy of the Creator and of the Redeemer. God does not put excessive demands upon us so that he then can show His Mercy toward us in the face of our own failure. With the help of Grace, we are able to fulfill the Commandments – among them the Sixth Commandment – and thus find peace of heart in a life in accordance with God’s will.

Pope Francis: God was “unjust with His Son, He sent Him to the Cross”

Last December 14, in an audience in the Paul VI hall with patients and staff of Rome’s Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital, Pope Francis suggested that God “was unjust with his son”, because “he sent him to the cross.”

The controversial comments were an answer to a question put to him by Valentina Vanzi, a nurse in multi-speciality paediatrics, who asked why children suffer. The Pope replied:

I have no answer to this question. Nor has Jesus given an answer to these words. There is no answer to this question, all we can do is look at the crucifix and let it give us the answer”. The Pope added: “is God unjust? He was unjust with his son, he sent him to the cross, if we follow this logic then we have to say this. But it is our human existence, our flesh, that suffers in that child and when one suffers, people do not speak, they weep and pray in silence.

The commentary of the Pope contradicts with the Church’s understanding of Jesus’ self-giving act on the Cross.  God is not “unjust” for sending His Son to the Cross – to the contrary, the Church teaches that one of the attributes of God is that He is Just.

Likewise, the Church teaches that Jesus voluntarily laid down His life out of love for us – His dying on the cross was not a result of an unjust decision by the Father, but rather an expression of His love for us.   Our Blessed Lord said that as the Good Shepherd, he voluntarily lays down his life for the sheep. No one takes His life from Him, He lays it down for His sheep of His own accord.  John 10: 14-18:

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me — just as the Father knows me and I know the Father — and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.

Finally, we also recall here St. Paul in Philippians chapter 2: 5-11:

For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man. He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross. For which cause God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above all names: That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth: And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.

Why is the Pope saying things that seemingly contradict established Church teachings?  It will be helpful to study at this point numerous prophecies made by saints and reputable modern-day prophets who have foretold of a time (right before the Second Coming of Christ) where there will be a great Apostasy, or loss of Faith, in the Church, brought about by the “False Prophet” of the Book of Revelation.  Below are some useful links to read in this regard:

Pope Francis signs document that pledges to work with Lutherans for intercommunion

At the conclusion of a historic ecumenical celebration in Lund, Sweden last October 31, Pope Francis and the general-secretary of the world’s Lutheran churches agreed to work together to remove the obstacles to full unity between their Churches, leading eventually to a “shared Eucharist.”

The statement was signed by Pope Francis and Bishop Munib Younan, who is president of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), which was founded in Lund in 1947.  They made the commitment in a joint statement signed before a congregation of Catholic and Lutheran leaders at the conclusion of a joint service in Lund, Sweden, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the start of the Reformation.

“Many members of our communities yearn to receive the Eucharist at one table, as the concrete expression of full unity,” they noted. “We experience the pain of those who share their whole lives, but cannot share God’s redeeming presence at the Eucharistic table,” they said, adding: “We acknowledge our joint pastoral responsibility to respond to the spiritual thirst and hunger of our people to be one in Christ.”

“We long for this wound in the Body of Christ to be healed,” they continued. “This is the goal of our ecumenical endeavors, which we wish to advance, also by renewing our commitment to theological dialogue.”

As well as pledging to work towards intercommunion, the leaders prayed that Catholics and Lutherans will be able to witness together to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and work for justice and peace.

“We urge Lutherans and Catholics to work together to welcome the stranger, to come to the aid of those forced to flee because of war and persecution, and to defend the rights of refugees and those who seek asylum,” they said, adding that their “joint service” must also extend to God’s creation.

“We recognize the right of future generations to enjoy God’s world in all its potential and beauty,” they continued. “We pray for a change of hearts and minds that leads to a loving and responsible way to care for creation.”

The Pope and Lutheran leader ended by calling on their respective parishes and communities to be “bold and creative, joyful and hopeful in their commitment to continue the great journey ahead of us.”

They concluded: “Rooted in Christ and witnessing to him, we renew our determination to be faithful heralds of God’s boundless love for all humanity.” ∎

Church teaching on Communion cannot be changed, says Cardinal Burke

Cardinal Raymond Burke has given a new interview, in which he says that the Church’s teaching against Communion for the remarried cannot change.

In an interview with Raymond Arroyo of Eternal World Television Network, Cardinal Burke was asked to comment on John Paul’s document Familiaris Consortio, which states: “Reconciliation in the sacrament of Penance which would open the way to the Eucharist, can only be granted to those who, repenting of having broken the sign of the Covenant and of fidelity to Christ, are sincerely ready to undertake a way of life that is no longer in contradiction to the indissolubility of marriage.

“This means, in practice, that when, for serious reasons, such as for example the children’s upbringing, a man and a woman cannot satisfy the obligation to separate, they ‘take on themselves the duty to live in complete continence, that is, by abstinence from the acts proper to married couples.’”

Cardinal Burke, a canon lawyer and former head of the Vatican’s supreme court, told Arroyo: “Exactly what Pope St John Paul II is what the Church has always taught and practised, and my concern is that Amoris Laetitia seems in some way to permit an interpretation which leads to a practice which contradicts the constant practice of the Church. And that simply is a source of the gravest concern for me.

“In my judgment, what needs to happen is that the faithful know that whatever is written in Amoris Laetitia cannot change what St John Paul II set forth in Familaris Consortio, because what was set forth is the constant teaching and practice of the Church, and therefore it is magisterial.”

Cardinal Burke is one of four cardinals who privately asked the Pope to reaffirm the validity of Church teaching on the sacraments and the moral law. After the Pope declined to reply, the cardinals published their appeal, which took the form of questions, known as “dubia”.

The Pope’s advisor Fr Antonio Spadaro has said recently, on the subject of the dubia, that the Pope would only reply to “sincere” questions, rather than ones aiming to create divisions. Cardinal Burke said he was offended by Fr Spadaro’s implication. “Popes have always, all along the centuries – I’m a student of the Church’s discipline – it is the role of the Pope, as the pastor of the universal Church, as the guardian of the unity of the bishops and of the whole body of Christ, to respond to such questions. And to suggest that posing these questions is a sign of insincerity is deeply offensive. I can assure you that for myself, and I know the other cardinals involved, we wouldn’t raise the questions unless we had the deepest and most sincere concern for the Church herself and for the individual members, the faithful.”

He added that the matter was especially urgent because “as long as this continues the division will only grow, and of course the fruit of division is error, and here we’re talking about the salvation of souls – people being led into error in matters which have to do with their eternal salvation.”

Cardinal Burke also told Arroyo that, rather than being divisive, the questions aimed to heal the existing divisions. “Everywhere I go, many faithful – the priests and bishops and lay faithful to whom I speak – are in a state of very serious confusion about this. Priests tell me that one priest is telling the faithful one thing in Confession, another priest another thing.” The Pope could only resolve the matter by confirming the Church’s teaching, he said.

Fr Spadaro has also claimed that the cardinals were, in effect, answered by the Pope’s approval of guidelines in the diocese of Buenos Aires. But Cardinal Burke said that, while this may be the Pope’s “personal opinion”, “the question can only be answered in terms of what the Church has always taught and practised.”

Cardinal Burke told Arroyo: “The problem is that to engage in sexual union with someone who’s not your spouse is a grave sin, and to live in such a state publicly means that one cannot have access to the sacraments because he or she is not living according to the truth of Christ, and there’s no way that the Church can give permission for someone to do something which Christ himself does not give us permission to do.”

He added that the Church’s teaching on Communion for the remarried does not admit of any exceptions. “No matter what the complexities of the situation may be, the party in question, the member of the faithful in question, will either rectify the irregular moral situation in which he finds himself, and thereby be able to receive the sacraments, or until he is able to rectify the situation, will not present himself to receive the sacraments.

“There can’t be any exception, because if it’s always and everywhere wrong to engage in the conjugal act with someone who is not your spouse, then if you do that and live in that way in a habitual manner, you simply are in a condition in which you, with the help of the Church, with the help of God’s grace, you need to set your life in order, and therefore begin to be able to approach again to receive Christ in the sacraments.” It was the Church’s role, the cardinal said, to accompany someone in that process.

The four cardinals have been supported by others, including Cardinal Paul Cordes. Asked whether there were more who had not come forward, Cardinal Burke said there were, but went on: “I don’t want to get into this business of the numbers. We have to remember: the criterion here is the truth. There have been cases – take for example the case of Henry VIII, and his desire to be able to enter a second marriage without having his first marriage declared null. All the bishops of England except St John Fisher went along with the error, but St John Fisher is the saint because he defended the truth.

“And all of us in the Church who are cardinals, bishops, we have a responsibility to defend the truth. Whether we seem to be numerous or we seem to be very true doesn’t really make a difference.”

Cardinal Burke was also asked if hiys previous suggestion, that it might be necessary to issue a formal correction of the Pope, still stands. “Of course it does,” the cardinal replied. “It’s a standard instrument in the Church for addressing such a situation in the Church.”

The Book of Truth: A Critical Review

by Michael Shimpert

Will the Second Coming of Jesus Happen in our Lifetime?

In a series of alleged messages given to an Irish seer who goes by the anonymous name of “Maria Divine Mercy,” Jesus says that His Second Coming is close, and that it will happen in this generation. The messages, given to Maria on an almost daily basis beginning 8 November 2010, are found in this website and compiled in a 5-volume book entitled “The Book of Truth”. The messages contain prophecies of events leading up to the Second Coming of Jesus.

Are the messages authentic? Are they a hoax? Or worse, could they be fabrications by the Evil One himself in an effort to confuse us? This article attempts to give an overview of the messages as well as provide an opinion regarding their authenticity.

Can We Trust Private Revelation?

The fact is that, throughout history, God has always communicated to His people through “private revelations”. Moses, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Noah, Daniel, Revelation as revealed to St. John – all of these are private revelations no different from those happening today. The only difference between the private revelations of the past and those of the present is that that those in the past were documented in the Bible.

If we simply ignore these modern-day prophecies without, at the very least, studying them and sincerely asking the Lord for the grace of discernment, we will be no different from the people during the time of Noah. They jeered Noah and scorned his prophesied Great Flood – and ultimately paid the price (Luke 17:26-30).

In the “Graces and Mercy” prayer book, Pope Urban VIII (1623-44) is quoted as saying:

In cases which concern private revelation, it is better to believe than not to believe, for, if you believe, and it is proven true, you will be happy that you have believed, because our Holy Mother asked it. If you believe, and it should be proven false, you will receive all blessings as if it had been true, because you believed it to be true.

The Purpose

Jesus says to Maria that the purpose of the Book of Truth is to prepare our current generation for His Second Coming. If the Second Coming took place tomorrow, Jesus says that most of humanity will not be saved, since many will be unprepared. In His great Mercy, He is communicating with us through Maria to help prepare us. Below is the first message of Jesus to Maria dated 9 November 2010:

I am returning to earth as foretold. That time is drawing so quickly that many will not be prepared. So many will be shocked and taken unawares that they will not believe it is happening. There is not much time now for My prophets to help prepare mankind for this Great Event.

In a message given on 20 May 2011, Jesus explains clearly what the Second Coming means:

Much confusion exists in the world regarding this event. Many people believe that My Second Coming indicates that the end of the world has come. That is not the case for, instead, it will mean the End Times when Satan and his followers who create untold misery in the world will be banished from earth for 1,000 years.

This New Paradise I have promised will come about when Heaven and Earth merge to become one. This new life I bring to all My devoted followers is one of love and glory. You, My followers, will have to endure much suffering, however, while this transition takes place. To help prepare the world for this great event, I am bringing a great gift of My Mercy beforehand. The Great Warning, which will give each and every one of you the chance to see your sins and how they offend Me, will enable you to see the Truth…

…My daughter I will rule the earth for the 1,000 years. Make no mistake for I am now in charge of events as they now unfold in the world…

One World Group and the Antichrist

Jesus reveals to Maria that several important events will occur before the Second Coming, the most prominent being the emergence of the Antichrist and the False Prophet, and the Great Warning.

Jesus says that there is an elite, one-world group of powerful men who, behind the scenes, orchestrate all the major global events of today: the financial crisis, the banking collapse in Europe, wars in the Middle East. This powerful group is embedded in every corner of the world and all levels of power: the government, media, business, and even within the Catholic Church. It is led by the Antichrist, a powerful global political figure, a “leader in waiting,” who is still currently hiding, but will supposedly soon emerge. Jesus explains further the nature and the agenda of this “global elite group” in His message to Maria dated 5 October 2011:

The global leaders I speak of, who through cowardice hide where you cannot see them, are increasing their plans for global domination. They are building armies, weapons and poisonous substances all with one goal in mind, to destroy My children… They have even managed to infiltrate My Church from within… On the outside they will be seen to offer the world salvation in the guise of humanitarian efforts. Their creative solutions to make life easier for you will be in the form of unifying your money, your food, your health, your welfare and your religion as one, all under one domain, the domain of the antichrist.

The Antichrist will be a charismatic global leader whom the world will adore and proclaim a “savior”. Jesus describes the Antichrist in numerous instances throughout the messages:

His cunning will be hidden behind a handsome, charming and articulate exterior, but when My children look into his eyes they will see darkness for he has no soul. He was not created by the Hand of God the Father.” (6 October 2011 message)

He will be seen as the messenger of love, peace and harmony in the world. People will fall to their knees and adore him. He will show you his power and you will believe it is of a divine source. But it’s not… He will strut and show what will appear to be true compassion and love for all. Behind this facade he is full of hatred for you, My beloved children… He will wreak havoc in the world and will murder many. (15 November 2010 message)

2 Thes 2:4 speaks of the Antichrist as follows:

This one will oppose and exalt himself against everything that men adore and call God… The lawless one will come by the power of Satan, with all the force of false miracles and pretended wonders. He will make use of every kind of wicked deception, in order to work harm.

A Plot to Oust Pope Benedict XVI

In a message dated February 11, 2012, Jesus said to Maria Divine Mercy:

My poor Holy Vicar, Pope Benedict XVI, will be ousted from the Holy See in Rome. Last year, my daughter, I told you of the plot, within the corridors of the Vatican. A plan to destroy My Holy Vicar was devised in secret on the l7th March, 2011, and this will come to fruition, for it has been foretold.

Exactly a year after, on February 11, 2013, the unthinkable happened:  The Vatican announced that Pope Benedict XVI was “resigning” his office effective February 28.  The reason cited was his “old age” and “incapacity” to fulfill his obligations.  Pope John Paul II maintained his post all the way until old age, even until the time when he could not visibly fulfill his duties because of Parkinson’s disease.

If this was a resignation done with the voluntary will of the Pope, why done so soon and so quickly?  The announcement was made February 11, 2013 – a mere two weeks after, the Pope will officially have resigned his post.  Why was such a monumental transition done in such great haste? This was clearly not an ordinary occurrence. What was predicted in the messages to Maria Divine Mercy as early as 2011 in numerous messages has finally happened.

Critics will argue: But the Pope voluntarily resigned, he was not really “ousted”.  We encourage the reader to watch the video below, and judge for himself/herself if this prophesied “evil plot” to oust Pope Benedict XVI is believable.

A few hours after the announcement of Pope Benedict’s resignation, an extremely rare event occurred: lightning struck the Vatican.  Was this a mere coincidence? Or a warning/sign from God?

In a message dated April 12, 2012,  Jesus said that Benedict XVI was the last true pope on this earth:

My beloved Pope Benedict XVI is the last true pope on this Earth…I must warn you that many new self-proclaimed prophets will now emerge, who will contradict My Holy Word given to you, the end time true prophet…They, My daughter, are being sent to prepare God’s children to accept the next pope, who comes after My beloved Vicar, Pope Benedict. This pope may be elected by members within the Catholic Church, but he will be the false prophet. His electors are wolves in sheep’s clothing and are members of the secret Masonic and evil group led by Satan. This is how Satan will try to destroy My Church.

Liberal Prelates Admit Existence of a “Mafia Group” that Plotted the Demise of Benedict XVI

The election Pope Francis was the fruit of secret meetings that liberal cardinals and bishops, organized by Carlo Maria Martini, held for years at St. Gall in Switzerland.  This is what is claimed by Jürgen Mettepenningen and Karim  Shelkens, the authors of a just published biography of the radical, progressive Belgian Cardinal Godfried Danneels.

The book reveals that the Cardinal was a regular member of a secret pressure group of Churchmen that opposed Pope Benedict XVI. Danneels said that what was officially but discreetly labeled “the Sankt-Gallen group” was referred to by its members as “the Mafia”. Its self-imposed aim was to achieve a drastic reform of the Church, to make it “much more modern”, and for Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio to head it.

The group met every year since 1996, and together they organized the secret “resistance” against Cardinal Ratzinger, who at that time was the right-hand man of John Paul II. Their goal at the time was to elect a “reformer” pope to eventually replace John Paul II, in view of his nearing death, and to prevent at all costs the election of Cardinal Ratzinger as Pope.

The False Prophet

The most controversial aspect of the messages given to Maria Divine Mercy is the prophesy that the pope who will follow Pope Benedict XVI will be the “False Prophet” of the Book of Revelation. The False Prophet will rebel against the “last true Pope” (Benedict XVI) and establish  a “new” and “modern” Catholic Church. He will appear to be a loving and holy figure, and will be considered by many people as a living saint. But the reality is that he is allied with the Evil One. He will merge the Catholic Faith with all other faiths to form a false, one-world religion. Jesus warns priests, bishops and cardinals about the “False Prophet”:

My Holy Vicar Pope Benedict needs your prayers. Pray for him daily for he needs protection on every level to take him through the torment that lies ahead. It is important that My followers keep alert to any new Pope that may come forward for he will not be from God… You must acknowledge that the False Prophet is about to seduce you. Charm you. Convince you that he represents the truth. You must now show your allegiance to Me, and My Eternal Father… (7 June 2011)

In another message, Jesus elaborates on the coming partnership between the False Prophet and the Antichrist:

…watch with clear eyes the False Prophet who will attempt to lead My Church for he does not come from the House of My Eternal Father. He will seem like he does. But this will be false. Watch too for the friendship he will display with the Antichrist for they will be two of the most deceitful followers of Satan – dressed in sheep’s clothing. They will have powers, which will seem like the miracles of old but these powers will be Satanic… pray for the graces of discernment so that you may see this False Prophet for what he truly is. A demon sent to distract you, from the depths of Hell. (19 February 2011)

According to Jesus, the False Prophet will change the interpretation of the Holy Mass, and will deny the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Together with the Antichrist, he will persecute those priests, bishops and cardinals who will remain loyal to the one, true Catholic Church. Loyal priests will be forced to hold Masses in secret. It will be the most severe persecution in Church history.

This abolition of the Eucharistic Sacrifice to be perpetuated by the Antichrist and the False Prophet is prophesied in the Bible in passages referring to the End Times, particularly the Book of Daniel (12:9-12):

“Go, Daniel,” he said, “because the words are to be kept secret and sealed until the end time. Many shall be refined, purified, and tested, but the wicked shall prove wicked; none of them shall have understanding, but the wise shall have it. From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the horrible abomination is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is the man who has patience and perseveres until the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.”

The Gospel of Matthew likewise speaks of this prophecy:

When you see standing in the holy place the abomination that causes desolation spoken of through the prophet Daniel – let the reader understand – then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, a person on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house, a person in the field must not return to get his cloak – for at that time there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be. And if those days had not been shortened, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect they will be shortened. (Matthew 24:15)

Finally, in her messages to Fr. Gobbi (which carry the Imprimatur from numerous cardinals and bishops), Our Lady explains this “horrible abomination” prophesied by Daniel:

Beloved children, in order to understand in what this horrible sacrilege consists, read what has been predicted by the prophet Daniel… The Holy Mass is the daily Sacrifice, the pure oblation which is offered to the Lord everywhere, from the rising of the sun to its going down. The Sacrifice of the Mass renews that which was accomplished by Jesus on Calvary. By accepting the Protestant doctrine, people will hold that the Mass is not a sacrifice but only a sacred meal, that is to say, a remembrance of that which Jesus did at his Last Supper… And thus, the celebration of Holy Mass will be suppressed. In this abolition of the daily Sacrifice consists the horrible sacrilege accomplished by the Antichrist, which will last about three and a half years, namely, one thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Unprecedented Crisis in the Church

Since the election of Pope Francis, the Catholic Church has been plunged into a great crisis – perhaps the greatest it has ever faced in its history.  We are now witnessing the prophecy of Akita unfolding right before our very eyes: “The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, and bishops against other bishops.”

The controversial Synod on the Family witnessed a battle between progressive, liberal cardinals on one hand (like Cardinal Kasper), and faithful, loyal prelates on the other hand (like Cardinal Burke).  The progressive cardinals, with the encouragement of Pope Francis, wanted to revolutionize the Church’s teachings on sexuality, Eucharistic communion, and marriage.  The post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia was subsequently published.  After its publication, 45 theologians and priests distributed and published a letter addressed to all the Cardinals of the world, petitioning them to correct the numerous errors contained in the document.

In September 2016, four Cardinals –  Cardinals Walter Brandmüller, Raymond Burke, Carlo Caffarra, and Joachim Meisner – wrote a letter to Pope Francis, asking him to answer a series of 5 “yes” or “no” answers to help clarify errors and confusion that have resulted because of Amoris Laetitia.  When the Pope ignored their letter, the four Cardinals went ahead and published their letter in November, with Cardinal Burke saying that it may be necessary for the Cardinals to make a “formal act of correction” if Pope Francis doesn’t answer a letter from four cardinals asking him to clarify aspects of Amoris Laetitia.

Numerous controversial statements have likewise been spoken by Pope Francis that seem to be contradictory to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Great Warning

It is because of the machinations of the Antichrist and the False Prophet that the Blessed Trinity will intervene in a powerful way. Simply put, if the Lord did not intervene, the one world group will succeed in destroying much of humanity and eradicating Christianity.

The Heavenly Father will intervene with what Jesus calls “the greatest event since the Resurrection”. This event is the “Great Warning” or the “Illumination of Consciences”. It must be noted that this same event has been prophesied in many other modern-day revelations such as those to St. Faustina and Fr. Gobbi; and apparitions like those of Our Lady in Kibeho (Rwanda) and Garabandal (Spain), among others.

In His message to Maria, Jesus explains the nature of the Great Warning…

This Great Warning, out of Mercy and Love as a last Gift to My children, will happen soon. Every single one of My children will be shown their lives, their sins, their wrong doings and every single insult they were responsible for against their brothers and sisters, all during a mystical experience. Not one man, woman or child on this earth will be excluded. (22 November 2010)

… and of the great signs will appear in the sky:

My daughter you must do everything you can to warn the world because this great event will shock everyone. They will see great signs in the skies before The Warning takes place. Stars will clash with such impact that man will confuse the spectacle they see in the sky as being catastrophic. As these comets infuse, a great red sky will result, and the Sign of My Cross will be seen all over the world, by everyone. Many will be frightened. But I say rejoice, for you will see, for the first time in your lives, a truly Divine Sign that represents great news for sinners everywhere… Welcome the Warning. For then you will be given the proof of Eternal Life and know how important it is. (5 June 2011)

In Matthew 24:29-30, Jesus describes the signs that will immediately precede His Second Coming.

And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of man shall appear in heaven. And then all tribes of the earth shall mourn. And they shall see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven, with great power and majesty.

In her diary, St. Faustina revealed this message given to her by Jesus regarding a “sign in the heavens” that will appear before the Day of Judgment:

Before the day of justice arrives, there will be given to people a sign in the heavens of this sort: All light in the heavens will be extinguished, and there will be great darkness over the whole earth. Then the sign of the cross will be seen in the sky, and from the openings where the hands and the feet of the Savior were nailed will come forth great lights which will light up the earth for a period of time. This will take place shortly before the last day.

The message to St. Faustina and the account in the Gospel of Matthew parallel Jesus’ message to Maria Divine Mercy: comets colliding (“stars will fall from heaven”) and the cross appearing in the sky (“the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in heaven”).

A Call to Prayer and Eucharistic Devotion

Jesus invites all humanity to prepare for His Second Coming through much prayer. He has encouraged the formation of prayer groups to recite the various “crusade prayers” He has given through Maria. These crusade prayers are very short prayers that are usually directed to the Heavenly Father, and are very specific in nature: prayer for protection against the Antichrist, prayer to help prepare us for the Warning, etc.

Jesus encourages frequent attendance to the Holy Mass, and emphasizes the importance of praying the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily:

“Let Me remind all My children everywhere to recite My Divine Mercy chaplet every single day. Pray too, and I include all Christian faiths, the Holy Rosary to My Beloved Mother for this powerful prayer will weaken Satan’s power over My children.” (13 June 2011)

His message on 10 August 2011 says thus: “Patience, silent prayer daily, the formation of prayer groups, daily recital of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, fasting, and the Holy Rosary to My Beloved Mother combined, act as the perfect formula for saving souls.”

Jesus also emphasizes the importance of Eucharistic devotion: “…the miracle of the Holy Eucharist, present in all tabernacles all over the world, exists today and is there to fill your poor undernourished and empty souls with My Presence”.  (14 April 2011)

Who is the Real Source of the Messages?

Could these messages come from Satan? Or if not directly Satanic in origin, could these messages be mere fabrications by the seer, influenced by Satan?

The messages talk about timeless Catholic teachings and devotions: belief in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, daily recitation of the rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, fasting, self-denial, the importance of the afterlife, the reality of Satan. Satan has nothing to gain and everything to lose by emphasizing these things repeatedly.

Fulfillment of the Prophecies will Validate the Messages

Many of the messages are prophetic in nature, and are consistent with Biblical prophecy, as well as those revealed to various credible private seers. The fulfillment of the prophecies is, in reality, the only way to truly, objectively validate their authenticity. A similar case is the apparitions of Our Lady in Garabandal, Spain. These apparitions have neither been approved nor disapproved by the Church – primarily because most of the content of the messages are prophetic in nature and cannot be proven or disproven at this point in time. The Church is suspending judgment, pending the actual occurrence of the prophesied events.

Jesus also explains that the Warning will be the ultimate proof for the authenticity of the messages contained in the Book of Truth:

The world…is being given this special Gift – the Book of Truth – to show My children what they now need to do in order to prepare for The Warning, the Illumination of Conscience, which is being given to mankind to help prepare them adequately for My Second Coming…When this event takes place, after these Messages are given to the world, people will understand the authenticity of My Words given through you, My daughter, to save mankind. (28 January 2011)

Personal Discernment

The Lord Jesus implores those who are doubtful to pray first for the grace of discernment from the Holy Spirit before passing judgment on the messages. He says:

For those of My followers who denounce these messages, I implore you to pray to the Holy Spirit to ask for the gift of discernment before you dismiss My Holy Word. To those of you who insult My visionary and recipient of these messages you must ask this question: if it is Satan who you believe influences these messages, then why would he ask you to pray, to seek forgiveness, to receive the Holy Eucharist? Then you will know that this is impossible. (5 July 2011)

If we sincerely ask the Holy Spirit for this grace of discernment, He will heed our prayers and plant in our hearts the True answer.

Should a Catholic Celebrate Martin Luther?

In the aftermath of Pope Francis’ visit to Lund, Sweden last October 31 to kick-off a year-long commemoration of the 500 years anniversary of the Lutheran Revolt, we ask: Why would a Catholic celebrate Martin Luther when his entire revolt was based on hatred of the Catholic Faith?

Luther Attacks the Mass

Upon the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the most sacred action of the Church, Luther showered vulgar contempt.

He said that no sin of immorality, nay even of “manslaughter, theft, murder and adultery is so harmful as this abomination of the Popish Mass.” He further snarled that he would have “rather kept a bawdy house or been a robber than to have blasphemed and traduced Christ for fifteen years by saying the Masses.”

In his pamphlet The Abrogation of the Mass, aimed at destroying the Mass, Luther wrote:

I am convinced that by these three arguments [that he had made previously] every pious conscience will be persuaded that this priest of the Mass and the papacy is nothing but a work of satan, and will be sufficiently warned against imagining that by these priests anything pious or good is effected. All will now know that these sacrificial Masses have been proven injurious to Our Lord’s testament and that therefore nothing in the whole world is to be hated and loathed so much as the hypocritical shows of this priesthood, its Masses, its worship, its piety, its religion. It is better to be a public pander or robber than one of these priests.

The great St. John Fisher, who lived at the time of Luther, expressed horror at Luther’s impiety: “How can one be calm when one hears such blasphemous lies uttered against the mysteries of Christ? How can one without resentment listen to such outrageous insults hurled against God’s priests? Who can read such blasphemies without weeping from sheer grief if he still retains in his heart even the smallest spark of Christian piety?”

Perversion of Scripture

A key tenet of Luther’s revolution is belief in the “Bible Alone”. In Luther’s system, there is no Church commissioned with Divine authority to teach in Christ’s name, but there is only the Bible as the single source of Divine Revelation. Luther taught this despite the fact that the tenet of “Bible Alone” is nowhere found in the Bible – thus promoting a principle that is non-Biblical.

At the same time, Luther manifested contempt for Scripture by altering texts to fit his own ideas. Luther rejected good works as a means to salvation. He had the audacity to change the 28th verse of Chapter III of St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans to read, “We hold that man is justified without works by the law of faith alone.” Luther added the word ‘alone’ to the sacred text to bolster his own heretical view.

As is obvious, pride was one of Luther’s chief faults. Boasting of the infallibility and superiority of his own teaching, Luther barked,  “Whoever teaches differently than I, though it be an angel from Heaven, let him be anathema.”

Luther would go on to deny the binding force of moral law: “We must remove the Decalogue out of sight and heart.” And further: “If Moses should attempt to intimidate you with his stupid Ten Commandments, tell him right out: ‘Chase yourself to the Jews’.”

Luther Perverts Morality

Luther, an ordained priest and consecrated Augustinian religious, broke his vow of celibacy and married a nun, also under the vow of celibacy. Luther encouraged many other priests and religious to break their vows and marry.

Luther’s approach was ultimately a surrender to sensuality and worldliness at a time of moral laxity. As Professor Thomas Neil explained, Luther’s appeal to the clergy of his day was successful: “He offered them wives and they wanted wives. He withdrew them from the monasteries and put them in the public square, and they wanted to live in worldly society.”

The eminent convert David Goldstein wrote: “Luther’s writings regarding matters of sex are the opposite of things decent…Too many times through the centuries, immoralities have disgraced the Christian ministry, but Luther has the unenviable distinction of having defended sex sins as ‘necessary’.”

And because Luther taught that man is inherently corrupt, that his sins are never really forgiven but are simply covered by the Blood of Christ provided he make an act of “faith” in Christ’s salvation, he urged his friend Melanchton,  “Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe more boldly still.”

How contrary this is to the true Catholic doctrine that commands us not only to avoid sin, but to avoid the occasions of sin.

Nothing to Celebrate

As Msgr. Joseph Clifford Fenton, the eminent American theologian, observed, Martin Luther’s alleged Reformation of the Church “consisted in an effort to have people abandon the Catholic Faith, and relinquish their membership in the one true Church militant of the New Testament, so as to follow his teaching and enter into his organization.”

It is thus impossible to concede that a Catholic should celebrate Luther in any way whatsoever. Only those of a Protestant and Modernist mindset will do so. Martin Luther must be neither admired nor imitated. As the Church consistently taught for four centuries, his doctrine and the movement he started is only worthy of condemnation.

The 500th Anniversary of Luther’s destructive revolt should be a time for Catholics to mark the 1917 centenary of Our Lady of Fatima, and to pray and work for the conversion of Protestants to the one true Church of Christ, the Catholic Church.
